A wiki (the Hawaiian word for “quick”) is a type of website that allows anyone on the Internet to edit the content published on it. I don’t mean like a blog, where readers can submit comments. Wikis allow you to alter all of the content that’s already on the website - edit it, add to it, even delete it.
Wikis allow anyone to create or edit a website or webpages with little or no knowledge of hypertext markup language (html). Wikis and wiki pages can be password protected, however, to control who can edit. Wikis allow for collaboration on projects and promote ideas.
A wiki is like a blank webpage you can write on with simple tools - text, photos, graphics, videos, links and more. Wikis store the history of page changes so you can see how a page has changed over time, and can revert to an older version if you'd like.
Examples of wiki hosting services are wikispaces, PBwiki and wetpaint. We have included examples of each type:
PB Wiki - Year 12 Wiki, Year 11 Wiki, Year 13 Wiki
Wikispaces -Seamus Heaney, The Things They Carried, KKC Creations
Wetpaint - Schindler's List, The Kite Runner, Katikati College English
